Clemson U. Faculty Senate Votes to Voice Worries Over Salary Gap

Clemson University’s Faculty Senate voted unanimously today in favor of a resolution that expressed concern about the widening gap between the salaries of faculty members and administrators.

The Greenville News reported that the resolution cited “lost trust” in the area of administrative salaries. Bryan Simmons, president of the Faculty Senate, told the newspaper that the vote reflects “one single issue,” and “not a wholesale distrust of the university.”

The Faculty Senate reviewed the findings of two salary surveys before drafting the resolution. Meanwhile, a faculty-satisfaction survey revealed, among other things, that professors wanted to get bigger raises. James Barker, Clemson’s president, said he planned to look into the pay issues the Faculty Senate has raised. —Audrey Williams June
