Christian Fraternity Sues U. of Florida Over Denial of Recognition

A Christian fraternity has accused the University of Florida of discrimination in a federal lawsuit that says it rejected the group’s bid for recognition as an official student group, the Associated Press reported. University officials told the fraternity, Beta Upsilon Chi, that its all-male, Christian-only membership policy violate the campus’s rules against sex bias and religious discrimination. The fraternity is being represented in the case by the Christian Legal Society and the Alliance Defense Fund, which have been associated with similar lawsuits over the status of Christian student groups on other campuses. —Andrew Mytelka
