Christian Fraternities Win Official Recognition at U. of Georgia

The University of Georgia will recognize a Christian fraternity even though the group limits its membership to students who share its beliefs, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported today. The university had previously denied recognition to the fraternity because it restricts membership to Christians, a stand that violates the university’s policy of nondiscrimination.

The university changed its view after the fraternity filed a lawsuit with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund and the Christian Legal Society. Those two organizations have fought similar policies at universities across the country, arguing that they discriminate against Christians.
