Geneva College, a Christian institution in western Pennsylvania, and the Association of Faith-Based Organizations can use a state-sponsored job site specifically to hire Christians, according to the settlement of a religious-discrimination suit, the Associated Press reported.
The lawsuit, filed in December by the Christian Legal Society and the Alliance Defense Fund on behalf of the college and the association, sought access to Pennsylvania’s CareerLink job-listing site, which is supported in part with federal funds. “The right of a religious organization to align itself with individuals of shared belief is as central to that organization’s mission as other viewpoints are to nonreligious organizations,” said Timothy J. Tracey, a lawyer for the Christian Legal Society.
Representatives of the U.S. Department of Labor and Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry could not be reached for comment Sunday, the news service said, but it said court documents settling the suit showed that all parties had agreed to it. —Charles Huckabee
