Chinese Enrollments on American Campuses Regain Pre-2001 Levels

The U.S. Embassy in Beijing says that the number of Chinese students who received visas to study in the United States grew 25 percent last year, to more than 20,000, the Associated Press reported. That increase would restore the Chinese student population at American colleges to pre-2001 levels for the first time. The trend was already apparent, and partly recorded, in the “Open Doors” report issued last fall (The Chronicle, November 18, 2005).
