Chinese College Enrollments Surge to Record Level
A record 20 million students enrolled in Chinese colleges in 2004, giving the country the largest college-student population in the world.
Enrollment rose sharply in the fall, with 4.2 million freshmen accepted by colleges around the country -- double the number of students in the 1998 freshman class.
