China Grants Convicted Scholars Medical Parole
China last week granted medical parole to two United States residents who had been convicted of spying for Taiwan: Gao Zhan, an American University sociologist, and Qin Guangguang, a scholar turned businessman.
Beijing earlier had expelled Li Shaomin, a naturalized U.S. citizen and business professor at the City University of Hong Kong, two days after he was sentenced to 10 years in jail, also for gathering intelligence for Taiwan.
