China Detains Scholar From American U. on Charges of Spying
The Chinese government has detained a Chinese-born American University scholar on charges that she is a paid spy who has confessed to working for "overseas intelligence agencies."
Zhan Gao, a faculty fellow at the university here, was detained February 11 along with her husband and 5-year-old son. Ms. Gao is a sociologist whose research interests include women's political roles in Taiwan and the social transformation of China.
