China Borrows From Abroad to Reform Its Training Institutes
American community colleges, among others, are providing programs and models in vocational education
In 2000 a group of industry and government leaders in Hangzhou, a booming city in eastern China, got together to create a new kind of vocational college, one that would be markedly different from the obsolete technical training institutes that are the norm in this country.
Their solution: Build the campus in a high-tech park on the outskirts of the city and scrap classrooms
