China Bans Discussion of Role of 'Public Intellectuals'
China's Communist Party has banned discussion of the role of intellectuals in the nation following a call by a news magazine for them to take bold stands on public issues.
Reporters at several Chinese publications have confirmed that the Communist Party's publicity department, which is responsible for monitoring the news media, issued a ban last month prohibiting reports on the role of "public intellectuals," or scholars and other intellectuals who are involved in public
