Chimps Said to Be More Genetically Diverse Than Human Beings
A study of genes in the nuclei of cells of humans and chimpanzees has revealed that chimps are more genetically diverse than humans.
The three German scientists who made the discovery said their findings suggest not only that chimpanzees are four times as genetically variable as humans, but also that a bottleneck, or population crash, at one point in the evolution of humans may be responsible for their relatively lower amount of diversity today.
