Chemistry Journal Delays Publishing Postdoc's Article at Behest of His Adviser; a Biography, Finally, for Author of 'Confederacy of Dunces'

INSUBORDINATE SCIENCE? A leading chemistry journal, Langmuir, has delayed publication of a paper by a postdoctoral researcher because of the objections of his supervisor at Northwestern University.

The paper, by Peter V. Schwartz, was praised by the journal's four outside reviewers. It describes a potentially lucrative method of attaching patterns of DNA material to a gold surface, a technology that might be used to produce organic, three-dimensional computers.
