Cheers for 'Jack Sawyer's U.'
When Catharine Bond Hill, provost of Williams College, was named president of Vassar College earlier this year, my second thought (after good wishes for President-elect Hill and Vassar) was that she was the latest graduate of what I have come to think of as "Jack Sawyer's University." The late John E. Sawyer was a transformational president of Williams College (from 1961 to 1973) and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (from 1973 to 1988).
