Data Points: The Inflation Rate in Higher Education: Regional Differences
Colleges' costs, including goods, services, and pay, rose by 2.3 percent for the year ending June 30, more than the Consumer Price Index but less than half the 5-percent rate for academe reported for 2007-8. The Commonfund Institute annually calculates the Higher Education Price Index, an inflation index specifically for higher education, and last week for the first time reported increases in the rate by region.
