Charitable Giving to Education Suffered in 2001, Report Says
With the economy in recession, giving to education increased a meager 0.5 percent in 2001, to an estimated $31.83-billion. In terms of buying power, last year's inflation-adjusted total declined by 2.3 percent, according to the "Giving USA" report.
Over all, American individuals, corporations, and foundations gave an estimated $212-billion to charity in 2001, according to the report. As with the total for education, total support for all causes increased by less than 1 percent last
