Regarding Richard Monastersky's "The Real Science Crisis: Bleak Prospects for Young Researchers" (The Chronicle, September 21), I agree with the implications that graduate schools could do more to foster wider communication and expose students to a variety of options and disciplines. Yet these solutions do not address the basic problem of too many Ph.D.'s and too little money. …
