Change in Federal Formula Could Cost Students Billions in Financial Aid
Student-aid experts and Democratic lawmakers say that a change in the formula the federal government uses to calculate a student's need for aid will shift more of the financial burden of attending college onto students and their families. The critics cite a prediction by one group of financial analysts that the change, disclosed this month, will force undergraduates to spend at least $10-billion more on higher education in 2004.
