The president of Southern Illinois University announced on Monday that he had placed the chancellor of the institution’s Carbondale campus, Fernando M. Treviño, on administrative leave, The Southern Illinoisan newspaper reported.
The president, Glenn Poshard, said in a brief written statement that the move stemmed from “serious concerns” brought to his attention regarding Mr. Treviño’s assigned duties, but declined to comment further until a review was completed.
Mr. Treviño took office just last July. The previous chancellor, Walter V. Wendler, had stepped down in late 2006 at Mr. Poshard’s request. —Charles Huckabee
