A onetime candidate to serve as interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System is back in the running again.
Eddie V. Dunn, the system’s vice chancellor for strategic planning and one of two finalists, withdrew from consideration last week, saying that the other finalist—Lee A. Vickers, president of Dickinson State University—was the better candidate. But then Mr. Vickers withdrew as well, saying he wasn’t interested in the short-term post (The Chronicle, July 31).
Then, on Tuesday, Mr. Dunn reconsidered, the Associated Press reported, and returned to consideration.
For their part, members of the state’s Board of Higher Education were not dismayed by this presidential do-si-do, since the outgoing chancellor, Robert L. Potts, was due to leave office on Tuesday. Mr. Potts, who resigned a month ago over questions about his authority (The Chronicle, July 3), has agreed to stay in the job until Friday—even though he has already cleaned out his desk.
