Under fire from New York State’s attorney general, Andrew M. Cuomo, the athletics department at Central Michigan University plans to end a marketing agreement with University Financial Services, a student-loan company, according to the Associated Press. As part of a marketing agreement signed in December, University Financial Services placed an advertisement on the athletics department’s Web site that used the university’s colors and logo. The department was to get $10,000 to run the ad for a year. This month, Mr. Cuomo announced that he planned to investigate whether more than three dozen college athletics departments, including some of the country’s most prominent programs, had arranged loans for students in exchange for financial kickbacks. —Jeffrey Selingo
