Celebrating Modernism at Montclair State
Life imitates art, it is said. But art also imitates fiction, and vice versa. Those circular connections were emphasized at a festival on American Modernism at Montclair State University earlier this year. The event, American Spring, included an aria from Elmer Gantry, a new opera based on Sinclair Lewis's literary classic of the same name. It also paid homage to icons of American Modernism, featuring a Martha Graham ballet and a collaborative work by Jerome Robbins and Leonard
