Another Catholic college is raising the ire of church officials and anti-abortion activists by planning to play host to Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The Roman Catholic Bishop of Erie, Pa., has pledged to boycott Mercyhurst College’s graduation in May because of Mrs. Clinton’s planned visit tonight, according to the Associated Press.
The bishop, Donald Trautman, said he was disappointed in the college for not reflecting the Catholic Church’s stance on abortion, according to the AP. Mrs. Clinton favors abortion rights.
Tim Broderick, the head of a Pennsylvania-based anti-abortion group called People for Life, told LifeNews.com that he and dozens of other anti-abortion activists plan to protest the Mercyhurst event.
Other Catholic institutions—including St. Mary’s University, in San Antonio, Tex., and St. Norbert College, in Wisconsin—have upset Catholic officials and others for allowing Mrs. Clinton to speak on their campuses.
