Carolyn Mooney

Senior Editor (Special Sections)

Carolyn Mooney has served as an editor and reporter during more than 20 years at The Chronicle. She is presently senior editor for special sections, coordinating coverage for Digital Campus, Diversity, and other issues. She also writes occasional pieces on the arts and other topics.

Previously, as an international feature writer, she traveled the globe, reporting on such topics as language politics in South Africa and the Yeats International Summer School in Ireland. She also served as editor of the Faculty section and temporarily as international editor. As a reporter she covered state higher-education policy, the academic workplace, the college presidency, and religion. Mooney has also been a reporter at The Miami Herald and States News Service in Washington. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

She is the recipient of national awards from the Education Writers Association, and received a John J. McCloy Fellowship from the American Council on Germany to report on American troops in Germany.
