Capella University Prepares to Go Public
The private company that owns Capella University, an online education provider, has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to raise $86-million in an initial public offering of its stock.
Like other for-profit education companies, Capella has experienced rapid growth in recent years. From 2000 to 2004, the university's enrollment rose 54 percent a year and revenues grew 64 percent annually, on average.
