Candidates to Head the Department of Education

In his roundup of opinion regarding the next administration's choice of an education secretary, Stephen Burd gives your readers an incomplete and misleading account of the recommendations I made ("Cheney? Hunt? Casper? Early Returns in the Education Secretary Sweepstakes," November 17). While it is certainly true, as his piece notes, that I would regard Lynne V. Cheney as an outstanding choice for the position (although labeling her a "firebrand" is Mr. Burd's idea,
