Cancer Researchers at 6 Institutions to Share in $120-Million Grant

Six cancer-research institutions, including five at or closely affiliated with universities, are receiving more than $20-million each from the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. According to a news release issued this morning by the institute, the six organizations will get $20-million in cash now and additional gifts in the coming years. The money comes from the estate of Daniel K. Ludwig, a shipping magnate who died in 1992. The six institutions, which in 1992 shared a $46-million bequest from Mr. Ludwig, are the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School; the Johns Hopkins University; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Stanford University; the University of Chicago; and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York City. For more on the Ludwig Institute, see an article in today’s Boston Globe.
