Canadian Universities Raise Cap on Athletics Scholarships
The Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union voted this month to raise an annual cap on athletics scholarships of 1,500 Canadian dollars ($1,023 in U.S. currency), but stopped short of lowering the average grade necessary to receive the awards. Some Canadian universities have sought to eliminate the cap to prevent the loss of talented Canadian athletes to colleges in the United States that offer more-generous athletics scholarships.
