Canadian Election Results Mean It's Probably Status Quo for Higher Education

Stephen Harper and his Conservative Party picked up the most seats in yesterday’s election in Canada but failed again to elect a majority.

During the campaign Conservatives, unlike the other parties, had very little to say about higher education or the role of research. The Canadian Federation of Students gave the Conservative government several failing marks for its past performance on postsecondary education and research.

The party also refused to answer a survey on higher education conducted by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.—Karen Birchard
