Canadian Colleges Brace for Wave of Faculty Retirements
Canadian universities may soon see a seller's market for faculty members, with higher-education officials predicting that the nation will need tens of thousands of new professors within a decade.
That point was underscored in April by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. In a report called "Closing the Quality Gap," the group said universities in Ontario alone would need almost 11,000 new professors -- more than 80 percent of the current faculty work force
