Canadian College Offers 'Grandparent Leave'; British University to Enroll High-School Students; African Women to Benefit From New Scholarships
In a first, at least for Canada, staff members at Alberta's Red Deer College have negotiated successfully for "grandparent leave."
Employees who are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Red Deer College Support Staff Association will receive the new benefit, which gives one paid day off to help a son or daughter after the birth of a baby.
The idea received no opposition at the bargaining table, according to the president of the union's local chapter, Clark
