Last year brought a bumper crop of almost 80,000 foreign students to Canadian universities and colleges, according to the latest immigration figures. That’s almost a doubling of foreign students in a decade, Embassy Magazine reports.
One reason may be that Canada adopted a new marketing strategy that sells Canadian higher education instead of individual institutions. Initial anecdotal reports for 2009 suggest that foreign-student recruitment remains strong. Canadian universities expect the relatively cheaper tuition and weak Canadian dollar will continue to attract students from abroad. —Karen Birchard
