Many colleges and universities maintain unconstitutional speech codes, according to a report by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, echoing a report the group issued a year ago. The group, known as FIRE, asserts that 75 percent of the 346 colleges it surveyed maintain policies that restrict speech protected under the First Amendment. Recently, FIRE has successfully challenged speech restrictions at several institutions, including Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and Texas Tech University. —Eric Hoover
