Campus Servers Found Vulnerable to Spam
The Federal Trade Commission has warned hundreds of colleges that some of their computer servers may be prone to hijacking by spammers.
The commission told the operators of 486 computer servers with .edu Internet addresses that the machines might be operating in a way that leaves them vulnerable to being used by outsiders to broadcast spam e-mail messages, according to Don M. Blumenthal, coordinator of the commission's Internet Lab.
