Campus Officials Have High Hopes That New Leader Will Energize Direct Lending

Can Greg Woods, the Education Department's latest white knight, breathe new life into direct lending?

That was a pressing question for the nearly 1,200 financial-aid administrators who came here last week for the department's annual direct-loan conference, which Mr. Woods, a new department leader, helped run. By all indications, most of them left the conference believing that the answer is Yes.
