Calling All Wordhounds
Imagine if a publisher sought the help of a national television audience for dictionary detective work, à la the search for fugitives on America's Most Wanted. In Britain, the Oxford English Dictionary is doing just that in the second season of the BBC2 series Balderdash & Piffle, which seeks to antedate the known uses of 40 colloquialisms as part of a vast effort to rewrite the venerable work.
