California's University Systems Plan Big Increase in Training of Science and Math Teachers

The University of California and California State University systems are planning a big increase in the number of science and math teachers they train.

The plan, announced last week, will be backed with financial support from the state and a number of high-tech companies.

Under the "California Teach" program, the University of California system plans to quadruple its graduation of science and mathematics teachers, from 250 to 1,000 each year, by 2010. The Cal State System plans
