California Law to Assist Adjuncts

To the Editor:

The article "California Law Will Expand Benefits for Part-Time Professors at 2-Year Colleges" (October 22) neglected to mention a provision that will prevent many adjuncts from receiving benefits provided by this legislation. The office hours and health benefits must be negotiated through local faculty unions.

I am aware of a number of California community-college districts in which adjuncts are denied membership in the local union.
