California Colleges to Get Big Budget Boost From State

California's public colleges will receive major increases in their appropriations as part of a state budget for fiscal 2000 that Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, signed into law last month.

Compared with 1998-99, the state will spend 10.4 per cent more on California State University, 7.3 per cent more on the University of California, and 6.6 per cent more on its community colleges. The new budget also will finance
