Calif. Court Upholds Stem-Cell Measure
A California appellate court has ruled that a ballot initiative that authorized the state to provide $3-billion for research on human embryonic stem cells does not violate state law. At issue were the scope of the initiative, Proposition 71, which voters approved in 2004, and the design of a governing committee for the agency that will distribute the grant money. The court did not consider the legality of conducting research on stem cells from human embryos.
