A two-year college in California has started a scholarship program that will pay a year’s worth of tuition and fees for high-school graduates with annual household incomes of less than $50,000, even if the students have lousy grades and test scores. The program, at Ventura College, is described in an article in today’s Los Angeles Times. The scholarship, which expands a tuition break offered by the state’s community-college system, could benefit several hundred students in the college’s service area.
