Cal State System Threatens Enrollment Cuts

California State University will cut off applications to most of the system's 23 campuses on November 30 and reduce its enrollment by 10,000 students next fall unless state lawmakers can provide extra money for the system, its chancellor announced on Monday.

The chancellor, Charles B. Reed, told reporters that cutting enrollments systemwide would be unprecedented but necessary if state appropriations for the system remain at the same level as in the 2007-8 budget cycle. The
