Cal State System Hires Former Army Official

The California State University System is calling in the Army, as an energy crisis and a slowing economy put pressure on the state's higher-education budget.

Last month, Louis Caldera, a former U.S. secretary of the Army, was appointed vice chancellor for advancement of the 23-campus system, which enrolls 370,000 students. Mr. Caldera will oversee the system's lobbying in Washington and the state capital, as well as fund raising and communications with the public and alumni.
