Bush Vetoes Education-Spending Bill, Threatening Funds for Colleges
Colleges and universities had plenty of reasons to support the 2008 appropriations bill for labor, health, and education programs that Congress sent to President Bush this month, including increased funds for Pell Grants and a boost to the budget for the National Institutes of Health. In addition, academic institutions would have received about one-quarter of the more than $1-billion in earmarks included in the bill.
