Bush Proposes a Major Expansion of AmeriCorps
In his State of the Union address last week, President Bush proposed expanding by 50 percent the number of participants in AmeriCorps, which provides funds for college tuition in exchange for a year of community service.
His speech was relatively light on issues affecting higher education, as he focused on his major priorities of fighting terrorism and reviving the economy.
