Bush Proposes $1-Billion Increase in Pell Grants for Math and Science Students
The Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush last week proposed increasing spending on Pell Grants by $1-billion over five years for students who take college-level mathematics and science courses in high school.
Under the Texas governor's plan, those students would receive $1,000 more than other Pell Grant recipients, in their first year in college, to pay college expenses. Currently, the maximum Pell Grant is $3,300.
