Bush Picks Texas Volunteer Leader to Run AmeriCorps
A Texas woman with a history of volunteer activism at state and national levels took over last week as the new director of the AmeriCorps national-service program.
Rosie K. Mauk, of Fort Worth, said she welcomed the chance to expand opportunities for Americans to serve their nation, especially after the events of September 11. She also indicated that she believes the once-embattled AmeriCorps program, which President Clinton created in 1993, is here to stay.
