Bush Picks Chief for Higher Education
President Bush last week nominated Diane A. Jones, a former Princeton University lobbyist with extensive experience in shaping science policy, to serve as the Education Department's top higher-education official.
The appointment of Ms. Jones as assistant secretary for postsecondary education now awaits confirmation by the Senate. The person who previously held the post, Sally L. Stroup, stepped down last summer to take a top position on a Congressional education committee.
