Bush Nominee for High Court Knows Colleges
Roberts has handled cases involving athletics, privacy, and affirmative action
John G. Roberts Jr., the federal judge nominated to the Supreme Court vacancy last week by President Bush, has a considerable higher-education background, having represented colleges, faculty members, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association as a lawyer with the firm of Hogan & Hartson before he was appointed in 2003 to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
