Bush Names Director for Energy Research
Moving to fill a year-long vacancy, President Bush has named his choice to oversee the U.S. Department of Energy's basic-research programs. Last week, he nominated Raymond L. Orbach, chancellor of the University of California at Riverside, to direct the department's Office of Science.
With a budget of $3-billion, the office finances studies of nuclear physics, basic energy sciences, biological research, and computer science. The Energy Department is the leading source of federal grants
