Bush Administration Supports Direct Lending, at Least for Now
A Bush-administration official said this month that the White House had no plans to dismantle the direct-student-loan program. However, that official -- Jeffrey Andrade, a higher-education adviser at the Education Department -- said he could not guarantee that the administration would continue to support the program when the law that authorizes it expires next year.
